Meet Our Speakers

Clorena Story

Clorena is a 30-year-old wife and mother of two daughters residing in Houston. Clorena’s has a family history of breast and brain cancer. While breastfeeding one of her daughters, she discovered a lump that never got smaller. She was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in May 2020. She has started chemotherapy with six more rounds left. In November, she will undergo a double mastectomy and radiation.

Clorena finds it more comfortable to speak to those currently going through cancer, but she has struggled to find people who look like her. Her goal is to candidly share her journey with everybody because she wants to live out her most authentic life and be a vessel to others.

Jasmine Souers

Jasmine Souers is a 30-year-old who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26 in 2016. She was misdiagnosed at age 25 when she began to have breast pain and other issues. Despite having a family history of breast cancer, she was turned away from the doctor because there was no genetic mutation. Since being correctly diagnosed, she has undergone a bilateral mastectomy and is currently doing hormone therapy.

Since then, Jasmine has launched her for profit, For the Breast of Us, the first inclusive online women of color community for breast cancer and space for Black women to find stories about them. She wants to help women better navigate their journey with breast cancer.

Ilyasha Hood

Ilyasha Hood is a 27-year-old living in Tampa, FL. She took part in a clinical trial, but unfortunately, it was not helping her. After she pulled out of the program, doctors found that her cancer came back later and developed in triple-negative metastatic cancer. However, Ilyasha remains faithful and continues to pray about her condition.

Jessica Florence

Jessica Florence is a 26-year-old Jacksonville, FL native who is currently studying architecture at Florida A&M University.
